Behind the Walls is a children’s literature text which boldly celebrates teachers and challenges the ridiculous ways in which they are being treated by some proprietors and parents. It magnifies the relevance of teachers to remove wilful oversight and brings readers out of wilful forgetfulness.
The novella centers around Miss Beauty Ugochukwu who makes herself approachable and trustworthy; students see her as a friend and a teacher. Some of her colleagues become jealous and call her names such as Miss Over-Syllabus and Miss Pythagoras but she is not discouraged.
The novella demonstrates that when students win prizes, teachers taught them; when schools get glorified with excellence, teachers have taught them and when professionals are seen, teachers have taught them.
